Airline Company SkyWest Inc. (SKYW) Wednesday reported that pilots of SkyWest Airlines have tendered their votes to sustain the company's open-door culture. In a voting, around 65% of the pilots resolved not to affiliate with unions. The verdict came as a blow to attempts by the Air Line Pilots Association to act as a collective-bargaining representative of the pilots. Earlier, SkyWest pilots had rejected affiliation to labor unions in two other occasions. Results of the voting will evade concerns of increased employment costs, raised by investors citing higher labor costs incurred by US Airways Group and AMR with their negotiations often resulting in contracts that increase costs. The St. George, Utah based SkyWest has a set policy of working with all sections of employees to maintain competitive wages, a favorable working-environment and professional growth. The company has been operating union-free for the last thirty five years.Chip Childs, president of SkyWest Airlines stated, "We are pleased with our pilots' decision to reject third-party representation and to maintain our current relationship. SkyWest's future is certainly positive, and we are pleased our pilots recognize that we can accomplish great things together as we work toward continued opportunity for our airline and our employees."Recently, SkyWest reported a 14.0% rise in its traffic for September 2007 to 1.44 billion from 1.26 billion last year, with capacity increasing 12.9% to 1.90 billion from 1.68 billion in the year-ago period. September load factor was up 0.8 points at 76.0%, compared to 75.2% in the previous year.SKYW is trading at $25.75, down $0.82 or 3.09%, on 0.29 million shares.
