IIJ Unveils IIJ Mobile For Corporate Customers As An MVNO - Update

Sunday. Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ), an Internet-access and comprehensive network solutions provider in Japan, announced the launch of IIJ Mobile, a mobile data communications service for corporate customers.

This represents the company's first foray into the mobile communications market as a mobile virtual network operator or MVNO, providing comprehensive solutions for businesses employing mobile broadband.

IIJ said it would use NTT DoCoMo's 3G FOMA network and data communications terminals to provide Internet access with high-speed mobile data communications up to 3.6 Mbps. The company plans to expand service offerings and functions, such as providing access to closed networks without going through the Internet, or providing mobile access as a part of the WAN using some of its existing services. This will enable the company to provide one-stop corporate network construction and operation that includes mobile data communications. IIJ Mobile Service is expected to provide High-speed nationwide mobile environment The company said that the high-speed downlink packet access would dramatically improve downlink speeds to meet customer demands for higher packet communications speeds, and it was standardized by the 3GPP as an advanced W-CDMA. Using this scheme, downlink speeds of up to 14 Mbps are possible.

IIJI rose $0.08 or 0.97% and closed Friday's regular trading session at $8.33.
