Bombardier (BBD-A.TO, BBD-B.TO, BDRAF.PK), the maker of Regina high-speed trains, said Thursday that it received a contract for 20 new four-car trains from the Swedish state railway, SJ AB. The contract includes an option for a further order of 20 trains.

The Swedish firm noted that the total value of the contract is about EUR 221 million, or US$349 million. It expects the delivery to commence in April 2010 and be completed in August 2010.

Project management and lead engineering for this order will take place in Vasteras, Sweden, where the Bombardier Mitrac propulsion system will also be designed and manufactured. The vehicles will be engineered and assembled at its Hennigsdorf site in Germany. The carbodies and bogies will be manufactured in Gorlitz and Siegen, respectively.

Stephane Rambaud-Measson, President, Mainline & Metros Division, said, "These REGINA trains maintain a level of reliability and comfort. The REGINA trains provide enhanced passenger comfort and are able to withstand the harsh winters in Scandinavia."
