Spanish Annual Inflation Accelerates Less Than Expected

The Spanish Consumer Price Index, or CPI, grew at a slower pace of 4.6% year-on-year in May, compared to a consensus forecast of 4.7%, the statistical office said Wednesday. However, the index rose faster than 4.2% in April.

The underlying inflation, which excludes food and energy products stood at 3.3%.

Month-on-month, the CPI rose 0.7% in May versus 1.1% in April and 0.8% rise expected.

Meanwhile, the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, or HICP, rose 4.7% year-on-year, in line with consensus.
