United Microelectronics Dec. net sales dip 45.54% - Update

Thursday, Taiwan-based semiconductor foundry United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) reported a plunge in its net sales for December.

For December, the company posted net sales of NT$4.61 billion, compared to NT$8.46 billion last year. On a sequential basis, December sales declined 23.49%.

For the period from January to December 2008, the company's net sales decreased 13.34% to NT$92.53 billion from NT$106.77 million in the same period a year ago.

Shares of UMC closed Wednesday's regular session at $2.15, down $0.07 or 3.15%, on a volume of 3.05 million shares.
