After Russia, and Kazakhstan, Ukraine also allowed NATO to use its territory for the transit of non-military supplies to Afghanistan.
On Thursday, Ihor Sahach, the head of the Ukrainian Mission to NATO, and the alliance's Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer signed an agreement to this effect.
The agreement is a key step in facilitating land transit to Afghanistan through the so-called Northern route, the NATO said in its website.
Kyrgyzstan's decision in February to close U.S. military facilities in Manas dealt a blow for U.S. and NATO operations in Afghanistan, as it was a key transit route for supply of goods and troops into Afghanistan.
