Stage Stores Inc. (SSI) reported that its comparable store sales for the five week March period ended April 4, 2009 decreased 15%, versus a decrease of 10.3% last year.
Total sales for the month fell 11.5% to $124.9 million from $141.1 million in the prior year period.
The company noted that accessories, cosmetics, intimates, misses sportswear and petites categories all performed better in March than the company average.
