Thursday, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said automobile production in March tumbled 50% from the previous year to 552,071 units. Domestic sales stood at 546,098 vehicles in March, down 25.3% year-on-year.
In March, motorcycle production also declined 50% to 60,369 units. Factory shipment of motorcycle was down 20.7% and stood at 48,548 units. Further, automobile output for the fiscal year 2008 was recorded as 9,993,756 units, representing a decrease of 1,796,303 units or 15.2%. While, domestic sales for the fiscal year 2008 fell 11.6% to 4,700,784 vehicles.
