McAfee Inc. (MFE) reported first quarter net income of $53.5 million or $0.34 per share, compared to $30.2 million or $0.18 per share in the prior year quarter.
Non-GAAP net income rose to $88.6 million or $0.57 per share from $71.2 million or $0.43 per share in the year-ago quarter.
Revenue for the first quarter increased 21% to $448 million from $369.6 million in the previous year quarter.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.48 per share for the quarter on revenue of $448.48 million.
For the second quarter of 2009, the company expects GAAP net income of $0.28 to $0.32 per share, non-GAAP net income of $0.54 to $0.58 per share, and net revenue of $455 million to $475 million. Street expects earnings of $0.54 per share for the quarter on revenue of $466.02 million.
