U2 hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart with their seventh studio release “Achtung Baby” on December 7, 1991. The album features several classic U2 favorites including “One” and “Mysterious Ways.” It was initially released on November 19, 1991. When “Achtung Baby” hit number one it claimed the top spot from Garth Brooks’ longstanding number one album “Ropin' the Wind.” The Irish rockers held on for one week at the top before Michael Jackson moved up to number one with “Dangerous.”The album made use of many new production techniques for U2, including looped drum sounds and heavy guitars. While speaking with Rolling Stone at the time, the Edge explained the decision:“We're at a point where production has gotten so slick that people don't trust it anymore...”
