John Lennon, Yoko Ono and company gave their second ever live appearance as part of a charity concert for UNICEF at the Lyceum Ballroom, in London, on December 15, 1969. The group was originally made up of John and Yoko along with Eric Clapton on guitar, bassist Klaus Voormann and Alan White of Yes. The show marked Lennon’s last live performance in the U.K. before his death in 1980. It also coincided with the beginning of Lennon’s famed “War Is Over” billboard campaign. Lennon and Ono paid to have large billboards in eleven major U.S. markets reading "WAR IS OVER! (If You Want It) Happy Christmas from John and Yoko.” The phrase from the billboards later inspired Lennon’s holiday classic “Happy Christmas (War Is Over).” The track featured the Harlem Community Choir and reached number four in the U.K.
