Rocker Eddie Van Halen, the famed guitarist for Van Halen, was born on January 26, 1955.

Edward Lodewijk Van Halen was born in the Netherlands and moved with his family to California as a child. It was there that he formed the band that would eventually become Van Halen.

Originally known as Mammoth, the group, including Eddie's brother Alex on drums, came together in the early 1970s. Eddie was the original vocalist, but a friend named David Lee Roth eventually joined the group and took over singing duties.

Their self-titled debut album came out in 1978. It is one of 11 studio albums the group has put out, with Roth eventually being replaced by Sammy Hagar and later Gary Cherone.
