1984 - Culture Club Hit #1 With 'Karma Chameleon'

Culture Club, the U.K. band fronted by Boy George, reached the top of the singles chart with "Karma Chameleon" on February 4, 1984.

The song appeared on the band's "Colour by Numbers" album, which also included the tunes "Church of the Poison Mind" and "Miss Me Blind." The LP was Culture Club's second studio effort, following up on their hit debut "Kissing To Be Clever."

"Karma Chameleon" was the band's first chart-topping single, though they had reached number two twice before, with "Time (Clock of the Heart)" and "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me." It would be the band's only number one.

"Karma Chameleon" took over the number-one slot from "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes. It reigned for three weeks before being replaced by "Jump" by Van Halen.
