Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer" reached the top of the singles chart on February 18, 1987.

The song was included on the band's breakthrough "Slippery When Wet" LP, which also spawned the hits "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Wanted Dead or Alive."

The song was the band's second chart-topper. "You Give Love a Bad Name" had hit number one the previous year. Bon Jovi would go on to score two other number one singles: "Bad Medicine" in 1988 and "I'll Be There For You" in 1989.

"Livin' On A Prayer" reached the top spot by knocking off Madonna's "Open Your Heart." It held on for four weeks before being replaced by "Jacob's Ladder" by Huey Lewis and the News.
