Billy Joel tied the knot with supermodel Christie Brinkley on March 23, 1985. Joel had previously been married to his business manager Elizabeth Weber Small and the pair split in 1982 after nearly ten years of marriage. Brinkley was the inspiration for a lot of Joel’s songs during the mid-1980s, including his hit “Uptown Girl.” Joel and Brinkley were married on a 147-foot private yacht in New York Harbor. While speaking with People magazine before the wedding, Billy explained that the yacht was the only way for the celebrity couple to be married in New York and also dodge the media."The reason we're going on the boat is to get away from the press. The wedding is not something we want to go public about. We're not Charles and Di. We don't think of ourselves as royalty. We happen to be working people."The couple had their only child, daughter Alexa Ray Joel, in December of 1985. They divorced in 1994.
