TLC Reach Number One With 'No Scrubs' 13 Years Ago

1976 - 'Frampton Comes Alive!’ Hits #1
1976 - 'Frampton Comes Alive!’ Hits #1

Peter Frampton's blockbuster live album "Frampton Comes Alive!," which would become one of the best-selling records of the 1970s, first reached the top of the charts on April 10, 1976.

Though he started his career in the early 1970s, Frampton initially had difficulty scoring a breakthrough. His first three studio albums made little impact on the charts and while his fourth, "Frampton," made a big leap forward, it still only peaked at number 32.

"Frampton Comes Alive!" captured the public's imagination, however, and made the English rocker a superstar. Recorded over a series of concerts in 1975, the double album featured "Show Me the Way," "Baby, I Love Your Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do," all of which appeared as studio tracks on previous albums.

"Frampton Comes Alive!" first took number one from the Eagles' greatest hits compilation. It would reign for a week, before being replaced by "Wings at the Speed of Sound" by Paul McCartney's Wings. The album would enjoy three more stints in the top spot, finally dropping out of the number one position for good in mid-October.
