Katy Perry Reaches Number One With 'California Gurls' Two Years Ago

Jack Johnson’s fifth studio release “To the Sea” hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart on June 19, 2010. The album followed his 2008 effort “Sleep Through the Static” and includes the tracks “You and Your Heart” and “At or With Me.”

When the album hit number one on the chart, it grabbed the top spot from “Glee: The Music, Volume 3 Showstoppers” by the cast of “Glee.” Johnson held on at number one through June 25, 2010 when the cast of “Glee” hit number one again with “Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals.”

The album’s success was fueled in part by “You and Your Heart,” which hit the top of the Adult Alternative chart. Johnson talked to MTV about the development of the track, saying:

"[That song] started off with this guitar riff that I had around for a while, actually had it on the last record, and we liked it, but we didn't have any words for it yet, nothing came natural, so I didn't use it. And at some point, some of the books I was reading started leading me in a certain direction, kind of like this broken king character. That area you get in sometimes, where you stop trusting your heart and you start thinking too much about logic and this and that. So it's basically about that separation that can happen between the self and the heart and trying to trust your heart again."
