Marvin Gaye hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Got To Give It Up” on June 25, 1977. The track was released off Marvin’s “Live at the London Palladium” album and featured the B-side “Got To Give It Up (Part 2).”When the track hit number one, it claimed the top spot from "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac. Gaye was eventually succeeded in the top spot by "Gonna Fly Now (Theme from "Rocky")" by Bill Conti. Marvin co-wrote the track with producer Art Stewart. The live performance released as a single was originally twelve minutes long and was cut down to four to accommodate a radio release.
