Coldplay Reach Number One With 'Viva La Vida' Four Years Ago

1986 - Wham! Farewell Concert
1986 - Wham! Farewell Concert

Wham gave their final performance at Wembley Stadium on June 26, 1986. The duo parted ways largely due to George Michael’s desire to pursue a solo career. The show was attended by 72,000 fans and was titled “Wham: The Final.”

George Michael allegedly invited British pop group Five Star to join them as the support act for the show, but the group declined, citing a desire to focus on their own careers. The show also served as the first screening for the Wham documentary “Foreign Skies,” which followed the duo on their 1985 tour in China.

The group also released a farewell album titled “Music from the Edge of Heaven,” which included their last singles "The Edge of Heaven," which reached #1 in June 1986, and "Where Did Your Heart Go?"
