Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass in Athens, Greece on October 3, 1962. He was born to David Oliver Bass, an American serviceman stationed in Greece, and Vassiliki Papadimitriou, a contestant in the 1957 Miss Greece contest. Lee moved with his family to West Covina, California a year after his birth and by his teens had became enamored with Queen, Kiss, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest. By the late 1970s, he had dropped out of high school to play with his fist successful band, Suite 19. That band became a mainstay on the Sunset Strip and were one of the house bands at the famed Starwood club along with Quiet Riot. After that band’s split, Lee was introduced to his future bandmate Nikki Sixx by guitarist Greg Leone.
