1985 - Bruno Mars Born

Bruno Mars was born Peter Gene Hernandez in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 8. 1985. He was born to Peter and Bernadette Hernandez and his parents were of Puerto Rican and Filipino descent, respectively.

His parents were both working musicians in Hawaii, and by the age of four, Bruno was performing with the family’s band, the Love Notes. Around this time, he also began impersonating Elvis Presley and quickly became known throughout Honolulu as “Little Elvis.”

In a bio for Elektra Records, Bruno explains that growing up in Hawaii helped develop his musical identity:

"Growing up in Hawaii made me the man I am. I used to do a lot of shows in Hawaii with my father's band. Everybody in my family sings, everyone plays instruments...I've just been surrounded by it,” he explained.
