Loretta Lynn made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry on October 15, 1960. At the time, Lynn and her husband/manager Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn were so poor they couldn’t afford a hotel room for the trip and slept in their car the night before the show.“When they put me on the ‘Grand Ole Opry’ I was so nervous I don’t remember anything other than patting my foot to the songs,” Lynn recalled for the Opry’s website. “I get so nervous any time I go on anywhere, but the ‘Grand Ole Opry’ is different. I think any Grand Ole Opry member will say that. When you go on the ‘Opry’ it’s absolutely a different feeling, and it’s something that you never feel again.”Lynn was inducted as a full member of the Opry in 1962 and was celebrated with a 50th anniversary concert at the Ryman Auditorium in 2012. Her sister Crystal Gale performed in her honor, as did Lee Ann Womack and Miranda Lambert.
