A former prominent financier and professional sports sponsor, Stanford was the owner and CEO of the Stanford Financial Group of Companies. In 2009, the SEC launched an investigation in to find a massive ongoing fraud involving an $8 billion dollar Ponzi scheme. Stanford is now serving a 110-year prison sentence.
