Kato, chief financial officer of Day-Lee Foods, pleaded guilty in 1997 to embezzling $62 million from the company over a period of nine years. Kato, a Japanese citizen, used the money to keep his wife and two children in luxury. However, Day-Lee Foods estimated the theft to be between $85 million and $95 million.
