Exports, once a linchpin for the biggest economy in the euro area, remained subdued due to lackluster demand amid trade war concerns and the global economic slowdown.

In 2019, the German export growth slowed to 0.9 percent from 2.1 percent in the previous year. Imports grew 1.9 percent after a 3.6 percent rise.
