Geron Corp.’s (GERN) Imetelstat is scheduled to be reviewed by FDA’s panel of outside experts on March 14, 2024.Imetelstat is proposed for the treatment of transfusion-dependent anemia in adult patients with low- to intermediate-1 risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), or lower risk MDS, who have failed to respond, or have lost response to, or are ineligible for erythropoiesis-stimulating agents.Patients with lower risk MDS require frequent blood transfusions to manage anemia and thrombocytopenia (low platelet counts) complications. In phase III clinical trials, Imetelstat demonstrated remarkable and sustained efficacy in achieving transfusion independence across multiple MDS patient subgroups, not addressed by currently available products. The FDA decision on Imetelstat for the proposed indication is due on June 16, 2024.GERN closed Tuesday's (Feb.27, 2024) trading at $2.06, down 0.24%.
