Geron Corp.’s (GERN) Imetelstat, proposed for the treatment of transfusion-dependent anemia in patients with lower risk myelodysplastic syndromes, awaits the FDA decision on June 16, 2024.Patients with lower risk MDS require frequent blood transfusions to manage anemia and thrombocytopenia (low platelet counts) complications.An FDA panel recommended approval of Imetelstat for treating anemia related to myelodysplastic syndromes in March of this year. In phase III trials, Imetelstat showed impressive and consistent efficacy in achieving independence from transfusions among various subgroups of MDS patients, a need not met by existing treatments.GERN closed Wednesday’s trading at $3.32, down 0.90%.
