1989 - Debbie Gibson Hits #1 With ‘Electric Youth’ (album)

Debbie Gibson’s sophomore album “Electric Youth” hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart on March 11, 1989. The album was released that January and followed her 1987 debut “Out of the Blue.”

Though only 17 at the time, Gibson wrote and produced seven tracks on the album.

“Electric Youth” took over the top spot from Bobby Brown’s “Don’t Be Cruel” and held the title for eight straight weeks. The album was succeeded by Tone Loc’s “Loc-ed After Dark” for the week of April 14.

In addition to hitting number one on the albums chart and becoming Gibson’s most successful album, “Electric Youth” also yielded the hit single “Lost In Your Eyes.” That track held the number on spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks. It sat in between runs by Paula Abdul’s single “Straight Up” and “The Living Years” by Mike and the Mechanics.
