Founding Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones was ousted from the band on June 8, 1969. By the late 1960s, tensions had formed between Jones and both Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. Jones’ girlfriend Anita Pallenberg had left him for Richards and he suffered creative differences with Jagger. In addition to his growing personal differences with his band mates, Jones also suffered from severe drug and alcohol addiction. Already prone to severe mood swings, Jones could become inconsolably depressed while using LSD. He was also banned from travel in the U.S. due to drug arrests and therefore could not tour with the band behind “Let It Bleed.”“We just saw Brian as a bit of a fly in the ointment. After two years of being on the road for 350 days out of 365, you start to get a little bit antsy when the fly is still there,” Keith Richards recalls of the ouster, according to thehistoryofrockmusic.com.
