1986 - Queen's Last Performance With Freddie Mercury

Queen gave their final performance with iconic frontman Freddie Mercury at the U.K.’s Knebworth Park on August 9, 1986. The singer had contracted the HIV virus and was beginning to suffer from the illness.

Having recently released their twelfth studio album, “A Kind of Magic,” Queen embarked on sold-out tour that included massive performances at Wembley Stadium, Ireland’s Slane Castle and in Budapest, Hungary, which was then part of the Soviet bloc. In all, over one million fans watched the band during the tour.

By the spring on 1987, Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS. He repeatedly denied his diagnosis in public statements but various tabloids continued to speculate that he had contracted the disease. Mercury revealed that he did, in fact, suffer from the disease in a public statement the day before his death on November 24, 1991.
