1975 - Bee Gees Hit #1 With 'Jive Talkin''

The Bee Gees hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their track “Jive Talkin’” on August 9, 1975. The track was released as a single from their album “Main Course” and hit radio in May.

“Jive Talkin’” was the Bee Gees’ first number one hit since 1971’s "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" and claimed the top spot from "One of These Nights" by Eagles. The track held on at number one for two weeks before it was succeeded by "Fallin' in Love" by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds.

After gaining international acclaim in the late 1960s, the Bee Gees had fallen largely out of favor. With “Main Course,” however, the Bee Gees embraced the disco sound that would later define them:

“The Bee Gees were broken. They were touring Malaysia and Venezuela, the two places where they were still popular. They were a mess. Everybody [in the group] had their own little soup opera,” recalls Kevin McCormick, producer of “Saturday Night Fever,” the movie whose soundtrack would become the Bee Gees’ most popular album.
