1988 - Jane's Addiction's ‘Nothing's Shocking’ Released

Alternative heroes Jane’s Addiction released their debut studio album “Nothing’s Shocking” on August 23, 1988.

The LP featured perhaps their most iconic song, “Jane Says.” The song, which is about a junkie that used to live in the same house as frontman Perry Farrell, reached number six on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks Chart.

The album would become an alternative classic, though it would soon cause tension in the band. Farrell demanded 50 percent of the band’s publishing royalties for writing the album’s lyrics. The band would break up soon after the release of their sophomore album "Ritual de lo Habitual," though there would be a series of reunions starting in the late 1990s. In 2003, they would release their comeback disc "Strays," with another album slated to come out in 2011.
