Little Eva’s “The Loco-Motion” hit number one on the U.S. charts on August 25, 1962. The track, penned by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, was released in June, and was the first release by the Dimension Records Company. Eva, who had been Goffin and King’s babysitter, was introduced to the pair by a member of the girl group the Cookies. King and Goffin liked Eva’s singing voice and asked her to record the song. The song itself has also become a hit for other artists: Grand Funk Railroad had a number-one hit with it in 1974, and Kylie Minogue hit number three with it in 1988.
