Bananarama Reach Number One With 'Venus' 25 Years Ago

1943 – Roger Waters Born
1943 – Roger Waters Born

Pink Floyd mastermind Roger Waters was born on September 6, 1943.

Waters rose to fame as the bassist and co-lead singer of Pink Floyd in the late 1960s. Waters became the band’s primary lyricist and songwriter after co-founder Syd Barrett was kicked out of the group in 1968.

The frontman's lyrical obsession with isolation, madness and loss would characterize the band's material for the bulk of its career, as albums such as “Dark Side of the Moon,” “Wish You Were Here” and “The Wall” became massive hits.

Waters left Pink Floyd in 1985 after releasing his debut solo album, “The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking,” in 1984.
