Booker T & The M.G.s drummer Al Jackson Jr. was killed on October 1, 1975. The noted session musician was shot five times in the back at his home in Memphis, Tennessee. The drummer – who had played on the Al Green hits “Let’s Stay Together” and “I’m Still In Love With You” - had returned to his home in the early morning hours of October 1 to find intruders in his home. They reportedly ordered him to get down on his knees, and then shot him. Jackson’s estranged wife, Barbara, told police that she had been tied up during the incident. The burglars reportedly didn’t take anything from the house, and the suspected gunman was killed by police in Seattle in 1976. Earlier, in July 1975, he had been shot in the chest by his wife, but he didn’t press charges.
