Little Richard had his first recording session on October 16, 1951. Georgia-born Richard Wayne Penniman began touring when he was just 14 - the tender age helping to earn him his "Little Richard" moniker. Billy Wright, an idol of Richard's, set him up with a DJ named Zenas Sears at WGST, a state-owned radio station in Atlanta. Sears took an interest in the singer, still just 18 years old, and got him a contract with RCA. The first recording session took place at WGST. Four tracks were laid down: "Every Hour," "Goin' To Get Rich Quick" "Taxi Blues" and "Why Did You Leave Me." "Every Hour" became a local hit, but Wright, who had loaned out his backing band for the October 16 session, recorded a cover of the song, which he called "Ev'ry Evenin.'" His version would become more popular than Little Richard's. Richard would not record again until the following year, and it wasn't until 1955 that his signature tune "Tutti-Frutti" would be laid down.
