The Beatles recorded their classic track “Day Tripper” at the EMI Studios in London on October 16, 1965. The track was recorded during the sessions for the band’s sixth studio album “Rubber Soul” and was released as the B-side to “We Can Work It Out.”“Day Tripper” was an instant hit in the U.K. where it debuted at number one and stayed on top for five consecutive weeks. It was also a hit in the U.S., peaking at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on Christmas Day, 1965. In various interviews, both John Lennon and Paul McCartney admitted that the track was written quickly because they were in need of a single. Lennon is largely credited with writing the track, and while speaking with Playboy in 1980 he claimed credit for it saying, “That’s mine, including the lick, the guitar break, and the whole bit. It’s just a rock ‘n’ roll song.”
