Bachman-Turner Overdrive Reach Number One With 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet' 37 Years Ago

1990 - IRS Seizes Willie Nelson's Assets
1990 - IRS Seizes Willie Nelson's Assets

The U.S. Internal Revenue Service seized Willie Nelson's assets on November 9, 1990, in order to settle a $32 million tax debt the country star had run up.

Poor money management on the part of the singer's handlers and bad investments in the early 1980s led to Nelson's predicament. Though outwardly unworried,

Nelson had asked his daughter to bring him his prized guitar Trigger when he thought negotiations with the IRS were going poorly. He feared authorities would sell it to help pay the debt.

Nelson eventually settled the dispute, releasing "The IRS Tapes: Who'll Buy My Memories?" in 1992 to help pay the tab.
