Hawaiian Airlines April traffic down 2.5% - Update

Friday, Hawaiian Airlines, a subsidiary of Hawaiian Holdings Inc. (HA), reported a 3.6 percentage points drop in load factor for the month of April. Traffic for the month dropped 2.5%, while capacity rose 1.6% from last year.

The Honolulu, Hawaii-based company's total consolidated load factor for the month of April was down 3.6 percentage points to 84.4% from 88% in the prior-year month.

Consolidated traffic for the month declined 2.5% to 667.40 million revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, from 684.75 million RPMs in the same period last year. Consolidated system capacity for the month of April, measured as available seat miles, or ASMs, rose 1.6% to 790.40 million from 778 million in April 2008.

The company said year-to-date system load factor declined 3.3 percentage points to 82.5% from 85.8% in the year-ago period, while system traffic edged up 0.1% to 2.63 billion RPMs from 2.62 billion RPMs in the prior year period. System capacity increased 4% to 3.18 billion ASMs from 3.06 billion ASMs in the corresponding period last year.

HA is currently trading at $5.27, up $0.23 or 4.56%, on the Nasdaq.
