Carrie Underwood was one of the performers at the 2009 CNN Heroes Awards Show. The show was taped last weekend and was aired on Thanksgiving. Other performers included R&B artist Maxwell and pop singer Leona Lewis.
The CNN Heroes Awards pay tribute to ten ordinary people who make extraordinary efforts to make a difference in the world. The top ten CNN Heroes were honored with a documentary tribute and were each introduced by a special celebrity presenter.
The CNN Heroes were chosen by a blue-ribbon panel from an initial pool of more than 9,000 viewer nominations. Each of the top-10 Heroes receives $25,000.
The celebrity presenters included Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Neil Patrick Harris, Pierce Brosnan, Dwayne Johnson, Eva Mendes, Randy Jackson, Greg Kinnear, George Lopez and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
The gala event was taped before an audience of 3,000 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.
