In a first of its kind by an airline, Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) has launched the industry's first social media 'Ticket Window' enabling passengers to book directly from its Facebook page and other social media sites.
Delta's Ticket Window allows any Facebook user to complete a full travel booking using a dedicated "tab" at facebook.com/delta without navigating to delta.com.
Delta intends to expand its Ticket Window to other sites, including online banner ads to allow full booking capabilities within the airline's advertisements.
Delta introduced a newly designed home page at delta.com earlier this week. The airline said the redesign of its home page is the first step toward a larger redesign that would continue to improve the online experience on delta.com and its affiliated technology, including airport kiosks, to offer more functionality to customers.
The immediate changes in the home page include easier access to flight booking, status updates, online check-in and SkyMiles account information
According to Bob Kupbens, Delta's Vice President - eCommerce, "Our customers are spending more time online and are looking for new ways to connect with us. We're now bringing Delta to our customers rather than the other way around - on our own website, on Facebook, on travel websites, on Internet news sites, and beyond."
Delta improved its smartphone site early this month. In the coming weeks, Delta plans to launch a new iPhone application that will allow customers to check in for flights, check flight status, review flight schedules, set a parking reminder, review SkyMiles account balance and use eBoarding passes in select cities directly from their mobile devices.
Delta said future releases of the app will enable customers to book flights, select their seats and track their Medallion status and other features that will streamline customer real-time travel experiences.
DAL is currently trading at $11.42, down $0.06 or 0.52%, on 332,764 shares. For the past year, the stock traded in the range of $6.55-$14.94.
