Total wine sales in Australia rose strongly in the June quarter with white wine leading the rise, official figures showed on Friday.
A total of 50.5 million litres of white table wine was sold between April and June, which was 3.1% higher than a year ago. Red and rose wine sales totaled 43.6 million litres, which was 2.9% higher.
The quantity of wine imported by Australia totaled 12.8 million litres in the June quarter, representing a 3.6% increase from a year ago. In value terms, wine imports were up 3.3% to A$84.9 million.
Australia is the fourth largest exporter of wine in the world. The wine industry is a significant contributor to the economy through production, employment and tourism.
