Cast Of 'The Hobbit' Announced

The cast of the Peter Jackson's upcoming film "The Hobbit" has been revealed. As rumored, English actor Martin Freeman, who appeared in the British comedy "The Office," will play the main character, Bilbo Baggins.

Jackson says of his choice: "Despite the various rumors and speculation surround this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us. He [Martin] is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave - exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit."

Other actors confirmed to be taking part in the upcoming flick include Richard Armitage (of "Frozen" and "Captain America: The First Avenger") as Thorin Oakenshield, Aidan Turner and Robert Kazinsky as dwarves Kili and Fili, Graham McTavish (of "Secretariat") as Dwalin, John Callen (of "The Man Who Lost His Head") as the fire-maker Oin, and Stephen Hunter (of "All Saints") as Bombur.

No announcement yet has been made regarding the return of Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

The film series will be split into two 3D parts, which will be shot in order. The first installment is slated for release in December 2012.
