Led Zeppelin's sophomore album reached number one on December 27, 1969.
The LP, called "Led Zeppelin II," was the band's first chart topper. It featured songs like "Whole Lotta Love" and "Ramble On."
"Zeppelin II" took over number one from the Beatles' "Abbey Road." The album's initial run at the top of the Billboard 200 lasted only a week, before "Abbey Road" returned to the peak. But "Zeppelin II" would enjoy two more stints at number one, another week-long run in mid-January and a five-week stretch through February.
