Sudan's National Electoral Commission has announced a new parliamentary and presidential elections schedule, to be held in February next year, a few months later than planned.
It will be the first general election in 24 years in that conflict-ravaged northeastern African country.
Sudan did not have an elected government since 1989, when the current President Omar al-Beshir assumed power through a bloodless coup.
Beshir, who is defying an ICC arrest warrant for alleged war crimes committed in Darfur, is expected to run again for the presidential election.
The election process begins on April 15 with demarcation of geographical constituencies, said Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, deputy chairman of the National Electoral Commission.
Elections would be held to elect a president, the head of the semi-autonomous south, the national assembly and the south Sudanese parliament, as well as local governors.
