UNIDO Goodwill Ambassador To Head Binance Charity Foundation

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has named Helen Hai, who is the goodwill ambassador of a UN agency, as the head of its new charitable foundation.

Her appointment comes a day after Binance CEO and founder Changpeng Zhao pledged $1 million to help flood victims in Japan.

Helen Hai tweeted, "A true pleasure to head Binance Blockchain Charity Foundation, the first to use Blockchain for Social Good and contribute to SDGs."

Binance Charity Foundation is the philanthropic arm of one of the world's largest exchanges by trade volume, with "Blockchain for social good" as its motto.

Helen Hai's work is primarily focused on development in Africa.

She is the United Nations Industrial Development Organization's (UNIDO) Goodwill Ambassador for industrialization in Africa.

Concurrently, she is the Chief Executive Officer of Made in Africa Initiative, which she founded to advise African governments on industrialization and investment promotion.

She is also co-Founder of C&H Garments, a pioneer Pan-Africa export-oriented garments manufacturer.

Hai was trained as an actuary in the United Kingdom and has two decades of international experience in FTSE100 companies.

in 2015, Hai was named Global Young Leader by the World Economic Forum (WEF). She is co-chair of the WEF Global Future Council on the Future of Consumption. She also received the 2015 African Business Icon Award.

in 2016, Hai was awarded the prestigious National Order of Lion of Senegal.

She is on the committee of the Global Commission on Business and Sustainable Development.

The Chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist is settled in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa.

Binance had already started working with Hai on its philanthropic projects. She led a project to help economic development in Uganda.
