Rentech Inc. (RTK) reported third-quarter net income of $36.132 million compared to a net loss of $7.772 million last year. Earnings per share were $0.22 compared to a loss of $0.05 per share a year ago. On average, 5 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report profit of $0.08 per share for the quarter.
Total revenues increased to $91.417 million from $60.374 million last year. Analysts expected revenues of $71.08 million for the quarter.
Rentech projects that its earnings per share will be positive for fiscal 2009.

The Federal Reserve policy session was in focus as it was the first to be led by the new chief Kevin Warsh. In Europe, central banks of the U.K. and Switzerland announced their rate decisions.
