Shania Twain will carry the Olympic torch early next year in her hometown of Timmins, Canada.

"We are elated that the final leg torch runner for the Timmins community celebration will be Ms. Shania Twain," said Mayor Tom Laughren. "Since her rise to fame, Shania has been a tireless ambassador of our community and she has taken every opportunity to expound the virtues of her hometown."

The torch arrives in the community on January 1.

"I am proud to have been presented this unique opportunity and privilege and look forward to sharing the pride with my hometown and fellow Canadians as we are all proud of our country's chance to host the upcoming Winter Games," Twain said in a statement.

The stop in Timmins will be one of over 1,000 stops on the Olympic torch relay, which will finally end after a 45,000-kilometer journey in Vancouver, site for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
