On average, eight analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $1.04 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenue for the quarter was $383.8 million, up 9.2% from $351.4 million in the comparable quarter last year. Analysts expected the company to report revenue of $371.95 million for the quarter.
Earned premiums for the quarter was $347.2 million, compared to $322.8 million in the year ago quarter. Net investment income was $31.9 million, down from $38.8 million a year ago.
