Two of the year's most successful documentaries, It Might Get Loud and Anvil! The Story of Anvil, have been left off of the 15-film short list of nominations for the Best Documentary Award at the 2010 Academy Awards.
It Might Get Loud, which was produced by filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, was released in August. It features Jimmy Page, Jack White and U2's the Edge talking about their craft and the history of the electric guitar.
Anvil! tells the story of the long-running Canadian heavy metal act, Anvil. The film premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and catapulted the band into the metal spotlight, leading to opportunities for the group to play in opening slots for bands such as AC/DC and Saxon.
Michael Jackson's This Is It has also been left off the ballot, since it did not make its premiere until after the Oscar deadline.
One music related film, Soundtrack for a Revolution, did make the Oscar list. The movie features the Roots, the Blind Boys of Alabama, John Legend, Wyclef Jean and many other performers.
